Abstract

This work consists in a critical revision of Adorno’s Aesthetics which in- tends, on the one hand, to give a reading of it able to rescue its up-to-date aspects, focusing on three of them: the interdependence between art criticism and philosophy of art, negativity and the double characterization of art as autonomous and fait social. On the other hand, the analysis points out Adorno’s Aesthetics blind spots, concentrating on his philosophy of music, especially on his negative view on “low music” of his days, which he identfied with cultural industry products. Against Adorno’s totalizing viewpoint, this work offers an alternative evaluation through the consideration of cer- tain pop and jazz movements in the light of some Diedrich Diederichsen and Angela McRobbie’s insights, and even some marginal notes of Adorno himself.
