Origin and Work of Technique

Abstract

The so called Engaged Humanities explore nowadays what civics meant for liberal education. Technological development needs the imagination and judgment that the arts cultivate, but it often forgets that the creative critical faculty is a force that makes us human. Walter Benjamin's theory of image points to a way of thinking and writing that favors simultaneity and constellation over continuity, creating a distracted reader, someone “distracted from distraction by distraction” (Eliot).
